how to install Nodejs in solaris server

Hi Techrunnr subscribers today we shows you how to install Nodejs in solaris. Installation of Nodejs pretty quite simple . Before the installation make sure that your user has sufficient privileges to execute the following commands,

Node.js is a platform built on Chrome’s JavaScript runtime for easily building fast and scalable network applications. Node.js uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model that makes it lightweight and efficient, perfect for data-intensive real-time applications that run across distributed devices.

Node.js is a server-side programming framework, built on Chrome’s JavaScript engine, which provides event-driven and non-blocking I/O. The coding is done in Javascript.

Think of it this way. Imagine a fast food chain where people come in, go to a counter, place their order, wait at the counter till they receive the order (meaning no one else can use that counter) and leave. Now imagine a million people coming in at a time. You’d need a lot of counters. These counters are like instances in PHP. PHP creates a new instance for each request. This is server load intensive and not very scalable.

Now imagine a fast food chain with only one counter. However, when a person places an order, they are made to wait on the side and the next person orders. When the first person’s order is ready, they are given their food without making others wait idly. This is Node.js. It uses a single threaded event loop to handle requests. As a result, it is highly scalable and is not as server load intensive as PHP.

Installing nodejs in solaris is quiet easy, only few steps

Step 1: Login to the server

step 2: Add the package repository to the system

pkgadd -d

Step 3: Install the nodejs using pkgutil

/opt/csw/bin/pkgutil -U
/opt/csw/bin/pkgutil -y -i nodejs

Step 4: Verify your installation using the following commands,

/usr/sbin/pkgchk -L CSWnodejs # list files
