How to install MySQL 8 in ubuntu 16.04

Hi Techrunnr Readers,this document deals with how to install mysql 8 in ubuntu 16.04. Basically, 16.04 comes with MySQL 5.7 and MariaDB 10.2 . If you want to install MySQL 8 you need to add the repository to install.

1. Add the repository and update.

wget https://dev.mysql.com/get/mysql-apt-config_0.8.10-1_all.deb
dpkg -i mysql-apt-config_0.8.10-1_all.deb

2. Install Mysql 8 in Ubuntu 16.04 server

apt-get update
apt-get install mysql-server

3. Mysql 8 comes with clustering packages. so Just enter OK for the prompt.

4. Enter the root password.

5. confirm whether you want to use the new password encryption feature… it’s recommended

That’s it, now completed the installation of MySQL 8 server in Ubuntu 16.04

Enter the MySQL server and create a database.

$ mysql -u root -p
*******

mysql> create database techrunnnr;

mysql>
